Gluten Free Food Service (GFFS)

Wednesday, March 27, 2019

CPS is part of a working group looking at the Patient Pathway for Coeliac Disease and the important role Community Pharmacy plays in this. We see our Coeliac Patients more often than any other Health Professional when they visit to use the GFFS. The working group is looking at opportunities for community pharmacy to play a greater role in the service.

CPS has had feedback from pharmacists and contractors around the operation and remuneration of the service. This is on the agenda of the CPS Board.

Later this year we will receive regular reports on the GFFS – numbers of patients registered, number of assessments completed etc so that we can assess how consistently the service is delivered and plan any support we may need to provide in advance of developing the service further. Many of you have asked for this information, so it is good new that we will be able to access it (due date is July this year).

In the meantime, can you review the GFFS in your pharmacies?

Are assessments due completed?

There may be patients who use the GFFS but will not have a pharmacy review. Reasons for this include

  • Patients under 16
  • Patients with Dermatitis Herpetiformis
  • Patients who have had a review from another healthcare professional
  • Patients who are housebound
  • Patients who have declined to have a review in the pharmacy
  • Other (you can specify this on the PCR

This can all be added to the PCR and will be reflected in the data on the report.

Detail of how to annotate this on the PCR is here.
